The Ron Philbeck/Michael Kline workshop here on the Cape a few weeks ago was inspirational, and not just because those two Carolina guys make great pots. I'd been thinking about creating an Etsy story for some time, but it all looked waaaaayyyy too complex. Ron and Michael both have such stores and talked about them at the workshop, how they managed them, how they kept inventory, packed and shipped pots, all of that.
So that was one of the main things I took from the workshop. Once back from NCECA a week ago, that was one of the things I wanted to get to. So I did.
With a longish and extremely encouraging IM consult with Ron, I got the store up. Go to Etsy.com and look for Hatchvillepottery in the shops. Tell me what you think. I still haven't got it all figured out (it's a whole new language), but there are a bunch of pots up there and they look pretty good. Take a look.
And many thanks, Ron and Michael.

nice one Hollis!! there's lots of online help too with tutorials and how to's.. you'll be set up and networked in no time :))
just remember to post little and often on Etsy, and join "circles" and "favourite" items and shops...it is all about connectionds! Also join groups
Good luck with the new venture.
Thanks, all. GZ, good advice. A whole different world in there.
I really do think Etsy is all about the energy you put into it. Glad you joined us!
Oh, and be sure to put a link on your blog for you shop.....
Yep, you need a link to your Etsy shop on your blog! When I was doing it, I found that listing multiple times a day definitely helped sales. When I put stuff in my shop, it sells, I'm just so lazy with it, and I got sick of the circles and all the social media aspect of it. I keep thinking I need to crank it back up, it's just so time consuming! But, go for it, I know folks will be buying work from you in your new shop!!! You just have to put in the time :)
Hey Hollis: re your email, I didn't mean re listing your items, I meant refreshing them so they get viewed more on the home page roll thingy, sorry, wrong term!! There are lots of people making Etsy work so have fun!!
wow- great pieces! I've found etsy to be time consuming and the whole social media thing too can be a pain. Hope it works well for you!
ngHope that your shoppe brings you a new set of followers...good luck, Hollis
Congrats! Etsy can be as intense as you want to make it. I find the sales, though occasional, to be a delightful surprise with relatively little work! Also, it grows as you get found. Customers will be glad to know they can find you online.
Thanks, everyone. And Tracey, I think I got what you meant. No problem.
Hi Hollis! Looks great! Echoing Tracey's suggestion to link to your blog. Super easy to acquire an etsy "widget" from your blogger dashboard--then a selection from your etsy shop is right there on your blog page. Yay!
Yolande and Tracey, I've been trying to figure out how to link Etsy to my blog and have had no luck. Ideas?
Good for you, Hollis! I hope it all goes well!
Really like that vase. Your textures are great!
(If you ever run into Gini Schretlen in Falmouth, that's my aunt!)
Good luck with your Etsy store. I have planned to do something similar, but haven't had time look into it. Will follow your endeavor. Cheers from Lisbeth in Sweden
Hey Hollis: The following is a link with step-by-step instructions as to how to add an "etsy mini" widget to your blogger page:

You shouldn't have any trouble, if you follow these instructions!
Looking forward to seeing your etsy store on your blog!
Yo
Thanks, Yo. I'll give it a try in the morning.
Thanks, Yo. I'll give it a try in the morning.
Hollis, did you get that FB message I sent you a couple days ago? Just checking.
Hollis,
Ron also helped alot getting going on Etsy. I talked about it for about 2 years then after a talk with Ron, I went for it. I started last June with only 12 items and no work and had 4 sales in 2011. Then in February I added 50+ items and started doing the treasuries, circles, and teams and I have had 8 sales in 2 months. So more work means more sales and in slow months it is fine but won't be able to keep it up when I get busy again.
Good luck with sales.
